Second Annual "Pounding the Pavement" Pet Photo Contest and Pooch Pageant
The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach is holding their second annual Pounding the Pavement Pooch Photo Contest and Pageant. These two fun contests are a great way for proud pet owners to showcase their furry family members while helping those animals at the shelter that don’t have a warm forever home or a loving family.
Pictures of dogs can be submitted to contest@humanesocietynmb.org until April 2 before voting goes live on April 4. Votes are $1.00 each and you can vote as many times as you’d like. All proceeds go to the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. You can cast your votes in person at the shelter on Bay Street or online at humanesocietynmb.org. Photos must be submitted as an attachment and emails must include your name, your pet’s name and a phone number. All photos submitted by Monday at 8:00 a.m. will be published in the following Thursday’s North Myrtle Beach Times.
The winners of the photo contest are determined by the number of votes received. Winners will receive a prize package made up of gift certificates and will also be recognized at the Pooch Pageant, on the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach’s website and in the North Myrtle Beach Times.
Then join us in raising money for the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. Bring the whole family, including the pooches to participate in the Pounding the Pavement walk through Barefoot Landing on Saturday, May 1. Registration starts at noon by Ron Jon Surf Shop. A $10.00 donation per pet will be requested (this covers the walk and pageant). Walk, shop, socialize, get treats and discounts, and help the animals. Participating merchants will have a sign in their window.
The Pooch Pageant takes place on Saturday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Wild Wing Café in Barefoot Landing. Pooches can strut their stuff and win prizes for best outfit, most talented (tricks) and cutest. So get out the tuxes and gowns and bring the whole family, especially the four-legged, furry members to Wild Wing Café in Barefoot Landing for great food, good times and a wonderful cause!

Third Annual Taste of the Coast
Barefoot Landing is again partnering with our neighbors at Risen Christ Lutheran School to host the third annual "Taste of the Coast at Barefoot Landing." The event will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 1l:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Local restaurants will set up booths and offer samples of their specialties. This event promises to be "The Family Fun Event of the Year" offering a family friendly atmosphere with something for everyone. The event will feature a huge "Kid Zone" with exciting games and activities including blow up rides, pony rides, carnival style games, a balloon artist, face painters, and much, much more! Live entertainment will be provided throughout the day featuring the local pop/rock band "Diversity". Entry to the event is $1.00 or one canned good. Food and ride tickets are $1.00 each.
The Taste of the Coast event will raise scholarship and operating funds to benefit the students of Risen Christ Lutheran School through the support and efforts of the North Strand's culinary community and Barefoot Landing. As a result of the Eagle Fund's existence, Risen Christ is able to tell inquiring families that no truly needy child will be turned away. The event will also bring community awareness and recognition to the participants.
In conjunction with the festival, Risen Christ Lutheran School, Barefoot Landing, and its merchants will again be hosting a food drive to benefit the North Strand Helping Hand. Last year's food drive raised over 5,000 pounds of food and drinks and we intend to collect even more this year!
